Week13A - Online Advertising

I began my research by looking up the top 5 highest rated businesses throughout San Diego regarding photography. The top 5 surrounding businesses with the highest ratings were:

  1. True Photography: Instagram, Facebook, Yelp.
  2. Fangting Photography: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube.
  3. Stephy Wong Photography: Facebook, Yelp.
  4. Tiffany Allen Photography: Facebook, Instagram.
  5. Rachel McFarlin Photography: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest.
I decided to take this approach, because I thought it'd be a great idea to see what my competition looks like in my surrounding area. This gave me an exact idea of what marketing works throughout the San Diego area. True photography, Fangting Photography, and Tiffany Allen Photography showed really high numbers with followers throughout their main platforms. Their main form of advertising was sharing their work, and the testimonials that they received from the work that they've done. This is the best way to draw in new customers when it comes to the photography business. Everything is visual, and showcasing past work is a great way to draw in new clients. Another use of advertising shown by Fangting Photography was displaying a video that shows followers behind the scenes of the work that she does for her clients as a photographer. This boosts engagement by showing users that she is relatable, and that her business is trustworthy. All of the advertising used by the top 5 companies above I found to be effective. The only adjustments I would make would be Stephy Wong Photography, and Rachel McFarlin Photography's website. Although they are reaching customers through social media platforms, their websites represent their company as a whole.

When looking through the different forms of traditional media, and social media advertising... social media advertising is more suitable for my company by far. Photographers use Instagram, personal websites, and Facebook for a majority of their clientele base. I also found a very interesting article, Traditional Media vs. Social Media Advertising, which explains how social media advertising is taking over the industry. Apparently, social media advertising is the cheapest form of any kind of advertising out there! Even though there are hidden costs, I still believe this is the best method.
