Week 8B: Visual Social Media

The main goal for my business is to land free-lancing positions out in the field. Therefore, I chose to use well-known photographers that have similar work.

1. Annie Leibovitz uses Facebook, and Twitter.  On Facebook, she has 743,790 followers. She hardly posts on this platform, and mostly uses it for promoting events. Her last post was about 7 hours ago promoting a signing of a book she released for her new series. The amount of comments received fluctuate immensely ranging from 50-1200 comments. On Twitter, she has 117.5k followers. She hasn't made a post since 2014.

2. Elizabeth Messina uses Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. On Facebook, she has 16,964 followers. She posts a few times a month, and her most recent post was about 5 hours ago, A majority of the posts are promoting her work. She receives an average of 40 likes on her posts, and few comments. On Instagram, she has 206k followers. She has 1,996 posts, and her most recent post was about 6 hours ago. She creates highlight stories on her page, which is a nice feature to have! She receives thousands of likes on her photos. On Twitter, she has 28.3k followers. She posts a few times a month on this platform, and these posts are feeding in from Instagram. She uses this platform as a branch to her main social media platforms. Lastly, on Pinterest she has 53,701 followers. All of her work is grouped into boards for users to go through.

3. Mike Kelley uses solely Instagram. He has 26.2k followers, and has 810 posts. He averages around 1,500 likes on his posts, and his most recent post was on 10/16/2018. He features highlights on his platform, and use Instagram to promote his upcoming work.

4. Chrissie White uses Facebook, and Instagram. On Facebook, she has 1,283 followers. She doesn't appear to be very active, because she hasn't posted since 2017. On Instagram, she has 4,909 followers and 1,522 posts. Her most recent post was October 3rd, and she posts frequently to this platform. She averages around 200 likes per post. She also has her own website built to help draw in traffic.

What I've taken away from all of this research was that parts of the photography community take part in social media platforms, and almost all have their own website built to draw in traffic. Dune Stewart Photography has a website built to display work, and to draw in web traffic, however social media platforms help gain a new customer base. Throughout the Facebook pages I noticed that there was a section set to the side for viewers to see posts that the company has been mentioned in. I think this would help validate our page, and help assure customers that our work is what they expect it will be. Also, on Instagram I noticed that highlight stories were very popular! I'd like to implement that feature on my account to help draw in more traffic.
